The free online event on May 28 will look at predictive maintenance through the lens of data infrastructure and, specifically, the danger at airlines will fail to extract the value from their investment if they fail to align long term aircraft lifecycle strategies.
William Cecil, sales director at Weibar sponsor FTG, said: “Legacy aircraft systems, based on ARINC 429 and 717, provide airlines with a high degree of independence from OEMs.
“However, this flexibility comes at the cost of scalability, as each implementation requires custom configuration , parameter mapping, and decoding logic. This results in tightly coupled systems where onboard acquisition and off board interpretation must remain aligned.”
Cecil argues that while OEM predictive platforms have increased data capacity and integration they are reliant on vertically integrated technology architectures which constrains operator flexibility and control.
The answer? To decouple data acquisition from traditional constraints by adopting emerging 5G architectures that reduce complexity and enable scalability.
“Connectivity needs to be considered in terms of lifecycle alignment rather than performance alone. While 4G remains functional, it is already a maturing technology. Aligning long-lived aircraft investments with early-stage network generations, such as 5G, is critical to avoiding shortened investment lifecycle.”
