Delta Air Lines merged with Northwest Airlines in 2008, and one of the assets that the carrier inherited was a hub at Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT). Narita had multiple flights to US cities, including non-Delta hubs, as well as an impressive intra-Asia network. However, it wasn’t making much money, and Delta quickly began building Seattle as its transpacific hub to serve Asia nonstop from the US.
