Buy Avios via Avios Hotels for 0.62p when you make a booking

Avios Hotels, the Avios-owned hotel booking site which is run by Expedia, is running an interesting promotion.

In fact, it is running two promotions at once but only one of them is being advertised.

In total, you can get 60 Avios per £1 you spend on a hotel booking – partly for free, and partly at an exceptionally good price.

It’s a two part offer.

At present, Avios Hotels is offering 15 Avios per £1 spent on room bookings. This is a 50% increase on the standard rate.

We don’t usually recommend Avios Hotels because:

• pricing can be higher than ‘member rates’ when booking branded hotels

• you won’t earn hotel loyalty points

• you won’t earn elite night credits towards hotel status

• you won’t receive any hotel status benefits you may be due – no upgrade, no free breakfast, no late check-out etc
• you won’t get a VAT receipt

That said, if you can earn 15 Avios per £1 it is clearly worth doing the maths.

However, there is currently more to it

Avios Hotels is offering its own version of Avios Boost.

During the booking process, you can buy up to 3x the Avios you will earn from your stay at a fixed rate of 0.62p.

Take a look at this example:

The price is the same – 0.62p per Avios – whichever option you choose.

In the example, with a £355 hotel booking I will receive:

• 15 Avios per £1 spent, so 5,325 Avios in total, as a reward for booking, and

• the option to buy up to 3x that amount (so up to an additional 45 Avios per £1 spent) for just 0.62p per Avios

The only bits of small print you need to know are:

• you won’t receive your Avios until after your stay

• if you cancel your hotel booking, your bonus Avios purchase is also cancelled

• the Avios you receive cannot be boosted again via the usual Avios Balance Boost route

If the issues which arise when using Avios Hotels don’t bother you (higher pricing than ‘member rates’, no hotel points, no elite benefits) then this promotion is worth a look. You’ll never see a ‘buy Avios’ offer as low as 0.62p anywhere else.

The ’15 Avios per £1′ offer ends on 27th February, for stays completed by 31st August. It isn’t clear if the Avios Boost offer is permanent.
