The US Army Is Training Its Future Tiltrotor Pilots On A Marine Aircraft They’ll Never Fly

On December 5, 2022, the US Army officially designated the Bell V-280 Valor the winner of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft Program. Earlier this year, on April 15, the aircraft was given its operational designation as MV-75 Cheyenne II. When the aircraft enters service in 2030, it will be the first tiltrotor platform to join the US Army’s Aviation branch. Until then, Army aviators will train with the US Marines who have been flying the Bell V-22 Osprey for 19 years since it entered service in 2007.
