Amex Platinum dropping Lufthansa lounge access from 1st October
One of the more low key but valuable perks of The Platinum Card from American Express has been access to Lufthansa’s lounge network.
This became more valuable last year when the Lufthansa lounge complex in Heathrow Terminal 2 re-opened after a full refurbishment.
This perk is being dropped on 1st October according to US media reports. It is not yet mentioned on the American Express website.

No reason was given, but it is possible that the deal was too generous and had been impacting sales of business class tickets in Lufthansa’s core markets. The partnership was actually expanded in Germany a couple of months ago, with more lounges included.
As you still have six months to take advantage, it is worth running through the deal again.
The Platinum Card has a wide range of lounge benefits
The Platinum Card from American Express comes with a lot of airport lounge access benefits:
- You get two Priority Pass cards, each of which allows two people unlimited access to 1,550 airport lounges globally (so a family of four is covered)
- You get access to Delta lounges, when flying with Delta, by showing your Platinum card (no guests allowed)
- You and your guests get access to American Express’s own network of Centurion airport lounges, including the one in Heathrow Terminal 3 which we covered here
- You can access other American Express-brand airport lounges including Stockholm, Delhi, Mumbai, Mexico City x 3, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Monterrey x 2 (Mexico), Melbourne and Sydney
You also get Eurostar lounge access (no guests) in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels by showing your Platinum card.
You can learn more about these benefits in our full American Express Platinum review here.
SPECIAL OFFER: Until 26th May 2026, the sign-up bonus on The Platinum Card from American Express is increased to a huge 75,000 Membership Rewards points and you will receive a £250 Amex Travel credit on top. The spend target is changed to £10,000 in six months during this period. Don’t miss out! Click here to apply.
You can also access select Lufthansa lounges (for now)
Until 1st October 2026, you can access a large proportion of, but not all, Lufthansa lounges globally by showing an American Express Platinum card.
You must be flying on Austrian, Brussels, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss, Eurowings, Discover, Lufthansa or SWISS.
For the purposes of this article I just want to focus on the situation at Heathrow Terminal 2, as this is of most benefit to our readers.
How does the Amex Platinum / Lufthansa lounge offer work?
For American Express Platinum cardholders (Centurion cardholders have a different deal):
- anyone with a flight ticket in Economy on Austrian, Brussels, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss, Eurowings, Discover, Lufthansa or SWISS can access the Lufthansa Business Lounge in Heathrow Terminal 2
- anyone with a flight ticket in Business on the airlines above can access the Lufthansa Senator Lounge in Heathrow Terminal 2 (so you’re effectively getting an upgrade to the premium lounge)
The Senator Lounge is basically a ‘back room’ in the main Business Lounge – it isn’t a separate facility, although it does have a door which requires a QR code to access. The F&B is broadly similar but it is a quieter space.
Guests are an issue
You cannot bring a guest.
Your partner can come with you, of course, if they have a free supplementary Platinum card on your account.
There is no way to get children into the lounge with you under this offer except for children under the age of two years.
Obviously if you and your children are flying in Business Class then they would be allowed into the Business Lounge, but you couldn’t get them into the Senator Lounge.
What is the Lufthansa Heathrow Terminal 2 lounge like?
Lufthansa unveiled its new Terminal 2 lounges in January 2025 (review here from last October) after a three month closure.
In terms of style it is a massive upgrade on what went before, which had a sterile hospital-like quality to it. The new look is warmer and more inviting.
Food and drink was always a weak spot and, to be fair, there hasn’t been much change.
You can find out more about the Lufthansa lounge offer on this page of the American Express website. This page has not yet been updated to reflect the end of the partnership on 1st October.
