How Airbus & Boeing Quietly Killed Engine Choice On Every New Widebody Aircraft
Both Airbus’ and Boeing’s flagship widebody aircraft, the A350 and 777X, respectively, come with just one engine option. This leaves airlines who order either type committed to a decades-long relationship with Rolls-Royce for Airbus orders or General Electric for Boeing ones. This marks a major shift from the long-standing norm of offering multiple engine options for every aircraft type, with the 787 as the last widebody to offer more than one engine.
