French court convicts disruptive Ryanair passengers

The Toulouse Criminal Court has convicted two passengers for disruptive behaviour on a Ryanair flight, handing down suspended sentences of up to 10 months and a combined financial penalty exceeding €10,000.

The ruling relates to an incident on 17 May 2025, when the passengers caused significant disruption on flight FR9251 from London Stansted to Ibiza. Their conduct – which included abusive behaviour towards fellow passengers and failure to comply with crew instructions – forced the aircraft, carrying more than 184 passengers and six crew, to divert to Toulouse.

The court found both individuals guilty, marking a clear legal response to onboard misconduct.

Ryanair said it welcomed the decision, describing it as a strong signal that disruptive behaviour on aircraft carries serious consequences. The airline reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful travel environment and enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy on passenger misconduct.

A Ryanair spokesperson said the incident had caused unnecessary disruption to passengers travelling for holidays, underlining the broader impact of such behaviour on others onboard. The airline added that it hopes the conviction will act as a deterrent to similar incidents in future.

Ryanair said it will continue to pursue action against unruly passengers “for the benefit of the vast majority of travellers who fly without causing disruption.”
